Massage therapy is a healing art that encompasses the manipulation of soft tissues, positively affecting and improving health and well-being. There are many styles of which have been mentioned in the blogs offered during an intuitive remedial massage.
Most people would agree a massage makes them feel good. But many probably don’t realize exactly how good a regular massage is for their overall health. Do you know massages can improve performance, aid recovery, prevent and eliminate injuries, reduce stress and even enhance metabolism and circulation! A massage is also good for you in other ways too!
Regular massages can
- Increase the blood’s oxygen capacity by 10-15%
- Help loosen contracted, shortened muscles and stimulate weak, flaccid muscles. This muscle “balancing” can even help posture and promote more efficient movement;
- Speed recovery from exercise-induced fatigue;
- Increase production of gastric juices, saliva and urine;
- Increase excretion of nitrogen, inorganic phosphorus, and sodium chloride (salt). This suggests that the metabolic rate increases;
- Balance the nervous system by soothing or stimulating it, depending on which effect is needed;
- Improves function of the oil and sweat glands that lubricate, clean and cool the skin. Though, inflexible skin can become softer and more supple;
- Indirectly or directly stimulating nerves the supply internal organs can dilate the organs’ blood vessels, improving blood supply.

Remedial massage - is designed to “correct imbalances”. It can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow, whatever is needed to get your body to return to working at its optimum at this present time.
If you are suffering from aches, pains, stiffness or headaches caused by muscular tension then remedial massage can help.
Remedial massage can be considered as a generic phrase as there is not one specific type/style of remedial massage, and any massage that provides "remedy" for the presented ailment is considered to be a remedial massage.
Sharon incorporates all her training within her intuitive remedial massage so a session could include some deep tissue massage, some myofascial release or some trigger point therapy depending on how the muscles and soft tissues of your body present on the day. Whilst remedial massage may involve a firmer pressure than a relaxation massage, Sharon works within your pain tolerance levels with the emphasis being on improving muscle function without you feeling battered and bruised.
Can be relaxing but sometimes not (you may need to contribute by stretching, standing, being actively involved), remedial massage treats the body holistically and seeks to identify the source of discomfort (whether that be knotted, tense muscles or a more specific injury) allows the cause as well as the symptoms to be treated.
- Relaxation Massage - Although many people prefer a deep strong massage, there are many massage recipients who just like to relax and de-stress with a Swedish relaxation massage. Sharon will adapt your massage depending on your particular needs at the time of the appointment.
- Deep Tissue- Deep Tissue is similar to Swedish massage, but the technique focuses on the deepest layer of muscles to target knots and release chronic muscle tension. Most people who book in for a deep tissue massage in Sydney expect to receive a massage that is strong, focused and will cause them some degree of pain and discomfort. And whilst Sharon can provide an intense strong massage, deep tissue bodywork is much more extensive than this.Strictly speaking, deep tissue massage is about working the deeper layers of muscles and soft tissue to enhance muscle function, improve posture and reduce pain. It is not (necessarily) about working with a lot of pressure. In order to reach the deeper layers of muscle the practitioner is required to cultivate a touch that can penetrate through superficial layers at the same time as working to release adhesions and restrictions at the deeper level.Sharon’s 20 years+ experience has proven that by working slowly within your pain tolerance level, will provide you with more comfort and ease in your everyday life through effective deep tissue massage.
- Pregnancy Massage - There are significant benefits from having a massage during pregnancy. The advantages are amplified for women through out pregnancy, with the additional load and stress on the body physically of which massage alleviates in preparation for the birth and becoming a Mum.
Many women who are after more of a remedial and therapeutic experience (rather than a nurturing massage) appreciate the benefits of intuitive remedial massage - as they just want great massage, not to be touched if they about to break!
Sharon, being a mother of 3 herself, has personally experienced and is trained in pregnancy massage and is available most days of the week (including evenings).
Sharon uses pillows and cushioning to allow lying face down for a more balanced massage until safe side-lying position is required in later stages of the pregnancy using cushions and pillows for support and comfort. - Trigger Point Therapy uses techniques to release tight, knotted, tender spots in a muscle, known as “trigger points.” Trigger point pain is very common, and the effects can be debilitating. That’s because although the trigger point itself may be confined to a specific area, the symptoms it generates, including pain, numbness and tingling can radiate or “refer” symptoms to other areas of the body. Many trigger points are easily palpable, feeling like knotted bands or painful lumps within the muscle fibres. Trigger point therapy focuses on these spots, breaking up the tight fibres, releasing pain and tension, and promoting healthy circulation. Since trigger points are very tender, massage can be uncomfortable at times. But because trigger point symptoms can become worse over time, most patients find the discomfort is well worth the long-term benefits that result.Trigger Point Therapy can help to:
- Relieve pain at the site of the trigger points along with referred pain that occurs in other areas
- relieve chronic pain due to stress or occupational-related muscle strain.
- Sports Techniques - For athletes of every kind, each massage is specific to your sport/training of choice, with focus on a particular troublesome area like a knee or shoulder. Sports massage can be applicable for anyone who exercises and participates in sports at any level. You do not have to be performing at a high level to benefit from sports soft tissue therapy. Sports massage is not just relevant around competition time. It is relevant for performance maintenance, recovery from heavy training, injury recovery/prevention as well as pre- and post-event. The techniques and pressures used will be adapted to your personal circumstances and your particular activity.
Sharon has trained and has extensive experience in sports therapies. She can incorporate a range of techniques relevant to your requirements at whatever stage of training or competition you are at. - Fascia Release - focuses primarily on the fascia and connective tissue. Our fascia is the biological fabric that holds us together. It is a thin, tough, but elastic type of tissue that wraps around most of the structures in our body, including our muscles, providing support.It is believed that our fascia can tighten as a result of overuse, disease, trauma, infection or inactivity. This tightening can constrict muscles, decreasing blood supply, resulting in pain and decreasing range of movement. The glueing/tightening accumulation of fascia is what we experience as "getting old" as our body becomes less flexible, heavier and constricted over time.Myofascial Releasecan help to:
- relax contracted muscles
- improve lymphatic and blood circulation
- stimulate the ‘stretch reflex’ in our muscles

The Raindrop Therapy Massage combines the art of aromatherapy with the techniques of Vita Flex and massage in the application of essential oils to various areas of the body. This collection is designed to bring physical, mental and emotional balance to the body, promotes deep relaxation, facilitates the release of stubborn emotions and works to unwind tight and sore muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Focusing on the back, neck and reflex points of the feet this ancient Tibetan version of Reflexology and Massage techniques are used to give you the opportunity to sink into a deep state of relaxation and inner connection. Performed in silence, you slowly drift off to sleep aided by the relaxing effects of the essential oils which are applied up your spine and to your tired muscles.
What is Raindrop Therapy Massage?
This massage involves applying therapeutic grade essential oils to the spine, neck and feet. The session lasts about an hour however the benefits may last up to a week or more.
Gary found that combining several holistic techniques, described below, created a synergistic effect for the body. The three modalities that combine to form Raindrop Massage are:
- Aromatherapy – Raindrop therapy massage uses seven single essential oils, two blends and one essential oil massage blend during the session. It is congruent with the French application of aromatherapy where essential oils are applied NEAT (undiluted) to the body.
- Vita Flex Technique – Vita Flex was brought to the US in the 1920s by Stanley Burroughs. It is an ancient Tibetan healing methodology meaning “vitality through the reflexes”. Its theory is based on the fact that slight pressure applied to the body creates an electric charge that is therapeutic to the body. This is known as piezoelectric.
- Feather Stroking – This is similar to a massage term technique called effleurage. But this technique was actually termed by the Native American Indians.
It is a powerful, non-invasive technique utilizing the action of essential oils that can release many kinds of imbalances in the body.
The benefits are:
Balance every system of the body * balances electrical frequencies * release emotions stuck in the physical body * bolster emotional well being * supports healthy immune function
.
It is crucial for the client to drink plenty of water at least 3 days prior and following a session and avoid fluids such as soda, coffee, or alcohol before and after a session.

Are there any Side Effects?
Because the Raindrop Technique encourages detoxification of the body, to allow it to restore and harmonise, some people may experience some mild side effects or what is known as a healing crisis, during the process of the body is re-balancing. These mild symptoms may include flu like symptoms, headache, sinus drainage or emotional release/sudden mood shifts. The best advice is to drink plenty of water before and after a session.
While some may experience detoxification, others may feel relaxed, have heightened awareness or may be energized. It is really on a case by case basis, and depends on so many factors, as each person has their own blueprint and background.
Can this Technique be used for Animals?
Yes, animals respond beautifully to receiving Raindrop! Although the procedure is modified for obvious reasons, the benefits are the same. The oils should be greatly diluted for cats and small dogs but it does not diminish the effect of the technique.

Aromatherapy is the practice of using volatile plant oils, including essential oils for psychological and physical well-being. Essential oils, the pure essence of a plant, have been found to provide both psychological and physical benefits when used correctly and safely. The inhaled aroma from these “essential” oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing. Aromatherapy as used today originated in Europe and has been practiced there since the early 1900s.
There are a wide number of essential oils available, each with its own healing properties.The term “essential oil” is a contraction of the original “quintessential oil.” This stems from the Aristotelian idea that matter is composed of four elements, namely, fire, air, earth, and water. The fifth element, or quintessence, was then considered to be spirit or life force.
Essential oils do far more than smell great. They are used to help increase oxygen in the body upwards of 20%. Muscles respond to massage therapy faster when essential oils are incorporated as part of your therapy, supporting your body to respond more effectively to each massage and hold the positive effects of the massage longer. Essential oils also reduce stress causing Cortisol levels, help detoxify the body faster, help cells assimilate nutrients better and raise the body’s energetic frequency.

High Blood Pressure
After being diagnosed with high blood pressure a few months ago, my GP prescribed a very low dose of medication.
When discussing my concern with taking this prescribed medication, Sharon suggested to me, that I may like to trial using a combination of YL essential oils, as a roll-on application every time I experienced my BP increasing. The frequent application initially was to support the process of re-balancing and stabilising my BP. Initially this was required several times per day.
My daily nutritional support also consisted of Omegagize and Ningxia Red.
My BP has returned to normal! My GP was amazed at how I was able to obtain this with-out prescribed medication to control.
I am SO excited and grateful!!
